Ravinder Singh Interview in Deccan Chronicle

Ravinder Singh is an author and a computer engineer. After working for more than seven years in the IT industry, he is currently pursuing his MBA. His first two books are I Too Had a Love Story and Can Love Happen Twice? He is currently working on his third book.
Q Describe your favourite writing space?
I love to write in peace. Morning is the best time for me. I love to write in the open, with greenery around me. The presence of a water body offers me the best platform to be creative.
Q Do you have a writing schedule?
Not exactly. Many a time it is just the inner willingness that drives me to write. There have been times wherein I had made a schedule to write but nothing came to mind when I picked up the pen and so I had to postpone the writing. For me it is difficult to schedule creative thoughts.
Q Ever struggled with writer’s block?
At times I do. This mostly happens when I am writing the initial part of a chapter. There have been times wherein when I re-read the same chapter the very next day, I had to delete the entire chapter. But once I overcome that, the remaining road is a smooth drive. The best way for me to overcome writer’s block is to give a break and come back to write when I actually feel like.
Q What inspires you to write? Do you have a secret trick, or a book/author that helps?
If it is secret, why would I reveal it? Kidding! My USP of writing is to bring in a natural connect with people. I write of things and instances that usually all of us would have come across. My readers inspire me to write. That is the main reason why I have dedicated my second book, Can Love Happen Twice?, to them. Everytime they ask me on social networking sites about my next book, it pushes me to meet their expectations as soon as possible.
Q Coffee/tea/cigarettes — numbers please — while you are writing?
I don’t smoke. But yes, a cup of tea with less sugar and water, but with a lot of milk, put on heat for a good long time is what I love to consume while writing.
Q Which are your favourite children’s books?
When it comes to children’s books, I love books that narrate Indian stories. Panchatantra, for example, is my favourite.
Q Which is the funniest book you have read?
You will laugh at this. But to do justice to the adjective “funniest” I would honestly say that it’s not a book but a comic :))
